HEALTHY TIDBITS
Do you know some of the snacks or tidbits that can harm your dog? Here are a few:
- Onions and garlic can cause anemia (low red blood cell count).
- Grapes and raisins can cause renal (kidney) failure.
- Macadamia nuts can set off depression,weakness and vomiting.
- Foods loaded with fat, salt or sugar are just plain bad.
- "Death by chocolate" is a reality for our pets. Chocolate contains theobromine, a stimulant found in cocoa beans. Theobromine increases urination.Theobromine affects the central nervous system and heart muscle and after a time your dog can suffer from hyperthermia,muscle tremors,seizures,coma and possibly death.
- TRY THIS: A Fat Free Treat: Play down the use of food as a reward. A hug and some kind words provide conditioning and best of all encouragement.Your biggest reward for you and your dog-A healthy and happy dog who will give you many years of loyal companionship.
DOGS & SKUNKS:
It's that time of year: The annual contest of dog & skunk=STINKY RESULTS! Whew- a Vet approved wash to help neutralize this wonderful aroma:
Mix 1 quart of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide with one-quarter cup of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of mild dishwashing detergent(check to make sure it does not contain bleach or ammonia). Rub this solution into your dog's coat. Don't let any get into the eyes or ears. Then bathe with a mild pet shampoo. Rinse well. If necessary repeat the process.
